When Colonel Morry Beldon and his wife, Ann, came to San Antonio under the orders of Uncle Sam in 1945, they fell in love with the burgeoning South Texas city. They decided it was the ideal town in which to raise their family and pursue their own version of the American dream. That dream came true through a roofing company that Morry, an MIT graduate, started with A.A. Shepherd, a local homebuilder who was one of the first to befriend the transplanted Bostonians.
In 1946, Morry and A.A. launched AAA Roofing and Supply Co. The company grew with the Alamo City's exploding market for single-family homes. In addition to top-notch roofs and customer service, AAA furnished local builders with building supplies and arranged financing for them.
After nine years, the friends went their separate ways, and Morry incorporated Beldon Roofing & Supply Company.
In the 1960s, we began to broaden our scope, adding commercial roofing to our services. By the 1980s, we’d become one of San Antonio’s top commercial roofers.
That decade had even more in store. In the early 80s, Morry’s son Mike Beldon took over the reins of the company. A devout believer and expert in the foundation built by his father, Mike saw potential for exponential growth, and in 1985, Beldon Enterprises was formed in anticipation of our expansion into reroofing and government work throughout the country. By 1989, we’d formed two new subsidiaries: one to handle work in states outside of Texas, and another to house our international projects.
In addition to expanding geographically, we became increasingly determined to ensure that customers could come to us not only for roofing, but for tangential needs as well. In 1995, meticulous research and product testing helped us determine that LeafGuard was the best gutter on the market. Fusing top-shelf product with top-tier service, we established LeafGuard by Beldon, which now operates in 18 markets, including Vancouver, our first international outpost.
We kicked off the new millennium with a meaningful nod to our decades of progress: Beldon was named an Honorable Mention winner of the 2001 MassMutual National Family Business of the Year, recognizing our entrepreneurial success, community involvement, innovative business practices, and contributions to our industry.
Recognizing the need for a stronger network in the roofing community, we worked with other premier contractors to develop the National Roofing Partners (NRP), a professional roofing trade organization. The group debuted in 2006, and connects contractors and homeowners with experts in every aspect of the roofing industry.
In 2013, Brad Beldon, Mike’s son and Morry’s grandson, took over day-to-day operations for the company, and LeafGuard by Beldon and Beldon Roofing Company were united under his leadership. With eyes on the future and strong roots deeply set, Brad is determined to offer the best combination of reliable and cutting-edge products on the market. Big believers in the obligation and numerous opportunities to help more homes and businesses go green and are leading our industry’s charge to safeguard the environment and embrace sustainability.
The small partnership that started in the shadow of World War II has grown into a third-generation family business with a staff of more than 150 employees and a fleet of more than 100 vehicles, all dedicated to bringing the best of the business and themselves to our valued customers.
