Bay Windows vs. Bow Windows

Bay vs Bow WindowsIf you’re in the market to replace your windows or you’re considering a major home renovation, you may have come across bay and bow windows in your search. At first glance bay windows and bow windows look the same; both offer beauty and curb appeal to a home. Their names even sound the same. So, what’s the difference between bay and bow windows and which style is right for you?

Bay Windows

Bay windows have three window openings that are angled out and extend beyond the exterior wall, providing a little more floor space on the interior of the home. The structure consists of a fixed, picture window with two smaller windows on either side. They create panoramic views of the outdoors and allow more natural light inside from multiple directions.

Bow Windows

Bow windows, on the other hand, consist of four to six equally sized windows and can make any space appear brighter, larger and more open. They’re also more symmetrical and have a more curved structure than bay windows do. What’s more, bow windows can also be wrapped around a corner, creating a unique viewpoint from two sides of a home.

Choosing Between Bay & Bow Windows

Neither window style is considered better than the other and deciding what type of window will work best may come down to the structural design of your house and your home’s overall theme. If you’re considering having a bay or bow window installed in your home, make sure you understand the differences of each and make your decision accordingly.
