A single-pane window contains one glass pane, which makes it a more cost-effective option if you need a new window for your home but are on a budget. However, even with just one pane, a single-pane window can still be constructed with insulating features to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

For instance, the glass can be coated with a Low-E material that will effectively reflect heat away from your home during the warm summer season and back into your home when you’re running your heater during the winter. In fact, your HVAC system may be able to run more efficiently thanks to this heat-reflective coating since it better insulates your home.

Single-pane, energy efficient windows can also have frames that contain a series of internal chambers that act as insulating buffers against heat transfer. As an example, the heat from your HVAC system may penetrate the window frame on the inside while the cold air penetrates it from the outside, but the hot and cold air will only transfer into the internal chambers instead of into or out of your home. Plus, these chambers can be filled with argon gas, which has a low thermal conductivity rate and therefore does not transfer heat, as an extra layer of insulation.

If you’re interested in improving the energy efficiency of your home with single-pane, energy efficient windows, turn to BELDON®. The windows that we offer are constructed with multiple insulating chambers in the frame and include glass that has been treated with Low-E coating. In fact, BELDON®’s replacement windows have earned an ENERGY STAR® certification because of their superior insulating properties, which meet or exceed federal standards.
